Growing up, I listened to Moussorgky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, performed by Isao Tomita (synthesizer), and loved it. I decided to get an orchestra version on record and nothing comes close to the recording by Lorin Maazel and The Cleveland Orchestra. I purchased a new copy recorded by Telarc and Soundstream; both are the best in the classical music recording business. Telarc revolutionized the way to record and produce recordings – digital. Digital on record is not the same as digital on CD or streaming. In my case, digital on records is superior then to CD (and yes I compared them both). The record is much more 3-D sound and is more pure. What is better is this recording contains Night on Bald Mountain which is the perfect Halloween music! The jacket is a expand (opens) and contains linear notes from Lorin Maazel himself (1930-2014). The program was recorded in 1979 by Telarc and Craft Record reissued the record in 2022.
- A1 – Moussourgsky-Rimsky-Korsakov: Night on Bald Mountain Mountain (10:24)
- A2 – Moussourgsky-Ravel: Pictures at an Exhibition (Part One) (8:54)
- B1 – Moussourgsky-Ravel: Pictures at an Exhibition (Part One) (21:22)
The recording is magnificent and sounds like you are in front of the orchestra and well-balanced treble and bass. Worth every penny.
